Yahoo likes your secret keyword, thank you very much. Google didn’t rank you, but it did rank someone scraping your feed where your secret keyword was pushed from the meta description to onpage content. This accords with what I’ve seen before – Yahoo will actually rank based solely on meta description, Google requires that baby on the page or in an inbound link as well.

As for Bing. Hello, Bing? BING? Are you there???

I ran across a similar situation like this where a vast, deserted, forum with fully-followed links was left unexposed. I noticed this because I knew the site, and was surprised to see it ranked (if I recall correctly) on page one for “lingerie” – this despite the fact the host was highly-ranked, professionally-accredited online education site (precisely the reason it was attacked). It’s shocking how many sites (.org and .edu’s being the main target) have no comment protection, and/or have functional but abandoned forums, and/or have allow content creation.

By the way, there was a legitimate and professional reason I was looking at the SERPs for “lingerie.” Were I surfing for pleasure the query would, of course, would have been “sexy seos in lingerie.”

Well, as an epilogue, it appears as though the Pirate Bay was hit with a 3.6 million dollar fine and 1 year jail time. I got the news sandwiched between a recent report that the US Government released memos describing interrogation methods used at another Bay and a twitter-off between Ashton Kutcher and CNN. You decide which of those two were about “torture”.

I hear you and second that! We hear clients rattling off everything but the kitchen sink when it comes to online marketing roles and the kicker is they want to pay these imaginary folks next to nothing. It’s deflating to my talent and embarrassing to counsel.
I was wondering if you’ve run across any eager beavers (btw, love the sea monkey reference) that are green but have dabbled in SEO and link development for a year or so. Maybe with you as a mentor? Any referrals in the Vancouver area are greatly appreciated and rewarded ($) if we place them with clients.

Blogger was horrible for me too. I tried self hosting a few established Blogger sites I had (using the Blogger migration tool) and it was a mess.

Going from Wordpress hosting to self hosting was a breeze.
